Nepal Visa Information: A Comprehensive Guide

Visa on Arrival: The most convenient way to obtain a Nepal visa is upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at border immigration offices, particularly if entering from Tibet or India. However, citizens of certain countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan, are not eligible for visa on arrival.

Requirements for Visa: To obtain a visa, you need the following:

  1. Valid passport with a minimum validity period of six months.
  2. Completed application form (available for diplomatic/official/tourist visas).
  3. Two passport-sized photographs.
  4. Visa fees in cash.

Visa Fees:

  • Multiple entry 30 days: US$ 40 or equivalent convertible currency
  • Multiple entry 90 days: US$ 100 or equivalent convertible currency

Visa for SAARC Countries: Tourists from SAARC countries can enjoy a free visa for 30 days.

Visa for Indian Citizens: Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal. However, if arriving by air or overland, they need to present their passport or an identity card issued by the Indian government. Children under 10 years do not require any identification.

  1. Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu
  2. Kakarvitta, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal)
  3. Birganj, Parsa (Central Nepal)
  4. Kodari, Sindhupalchowk (Northern Border)
  5. Belhiya, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal)
  6. Jamuna, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid Western Nepal)
  7. Mohana, Dhangadhi (Kailali, Far Western Nepal)
  8. Gaddachauki, Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur, Far Western Nepal)

Visa Extension:

  • Extension fee for 15 days or less: US$ 30 or equivalent convertible currency
  • Extension fee for more than 15 days: US$ 2 per day Tourist visas can be extended for a maximum of 150 days within a single visa year (January – December).

Transit Visa: Foreigners staying for a night in Nepal for transit purposes or using Nepal’s airport to travel to another country can obtain a transit visa for one day by paying US$ 5 or equivalent convertible currency.

General Information:

  1. No foreigner can enter or stay in Nepal without a valid visa.
  2. Tourist entry visas can be obtained from Nepalese embassies, consulates, mission offices, or immigration offices at entry points.
  3. Once issued, visas cannot be amended, re-validated, or refunded.
  4. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted at entry points.
  5. Living in Nepal without a passport or valid visa is a punishable offense.
  6. No charge for children under 10 years, but a visa is required.
  7. Contact the Immigration Department for visa transfer in case of obtaining a new passport.
  8. Keep passport and trekking permit while trekking.
  9. Filming in restricted areas without permission is strictly prohibited.
  10. Respect local traditions, customs, and values to preserve local cultures.
